ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - The Fine Arts Department is helping Ector County ISD add two new awards to its trophy case.

The district has seen success with these awards for many years and it’s all thanks to the teachers’ work with the students and the community’s support.

ECISD’s Fine Arts Department was awarded “District of Distinction” for the third year in a row.

Out of over 1,200 eligible districts, Ector County was one of just 68 to receive the honor.

One middle school art teacher says art is about the students having fun while they are learning and honing their craft.

Districts receive this honor for using visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and social-emotional learning.

The district has also been named one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” for the ninth year in a row.

This honor is awarded to districts that demonstrate exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

This award comes from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation and the criteria rates schools on funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, and more.

ECISD and the other districts that won “District of Distinction” will be honored by the Texas Art Education Association on November 17.
